As the saying goes, there is good news and there is bad news... The bad news is that everyone is getting older and that there are a number of elements out in the world that will cause you to age faster than is natural. The sun, pollution, stress, your diet and lack of sleep are just some of the factors that can cause you to age faster.

The body needs oxygen to work. But when the body’s cells use oxygen, they produce a waste product called free-radicals that cause damage to the body and results in health problems like heart disease, diabetes and cancer. Antioxidants find and kill off the free radicals before they are able to do any major damage. To help you on your path towards looking and feeling younger, Jet Online has put together a list of top three anti-aging foods - and the best part about these is that they are delicious and easy to find!

1: Berries

All types of berries from blueberries to strawberries and raspberries are rich in antioxidants, namely; flavonols and anthocyanins, which help to protect against disease and promote healthy cells. Darker berries contain the highest number of antioxidants. Berries are also an excellent source of vitamins as they are rich in vitamin C.

2: Dark chocolate

Dark chocolate is known to help protect the skin from the harmful effects of the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays. Made from cocoa beans, chocolate has the highest flavanol levels of all foods. Flavanols help to reduce the redness caused by exposure to UV light, helping you to look younger. Dark chocolate also helps to increase blood circulation in the skin and to improve its ability to retain moisture.

3: Leafy vegetables

All vegetables are good for you and eating at least five portions of vegetables (and fruit) per day will help you to maintain a healthy diet. Eating vegetables ensures that you take in a large amount of antioxidants to help fight off the damage caused by free-radicals. Leafy vegetables such as spinach contain high levels of lutein and zeaxanthin, that help your body protect itself against UV exposure. Vegetables are also a good source of vitamins and minerals as they help to boost your immune system.
